Start a Bible Book Club

Yes, you heard me! Start a Bible Book Club. Book Clubs are all the rage, right? The average book club focuses on the best-‐selling, fiction book of the moment. How about a focus on The Best-‐selling Book of ALL time and it’s non-‐fiction! Don’t’ buy a Bible-‐study off the shelf, just use the Book you have. Don’t worry, if you don’t have a Bible, I’ll share with you my favorite, friendly versions on my Resources link.

It’s easy to get started. Call a few friends, a few neighbors, a few friends from church. Ask everyone to bring their Bible and a notebook just in case someone shares something inspiring or helpful they may want to write down. Explain that you are starting a new kind of Book Club that doesn’t require buying a new book every 6 weeks or that has an intimidating time limit to read it. Share that it doesn’t matter if you are a Bible scholar or have intermediate or beginner knowledge of the Bible to participate.

The plan is to gather and that you as the first Host or Hostess will begin the Book discussion by sharing something from the Bible that interests you, has encouraged you through a difficult time, or maybe something you remember your mother, grandmother or another loved one say that has remained with you til this day.

Here’s an example,

My friend and I were discussing marital relationships one day. She shared with me what her Grandmother shared with her. A soft answer turns away wrath, from the Book of Proverbs. It really gave me a lot to think about like how I respond to my husband and how I talk to my children. I looked up the verse and found it had a little more to it. A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1.

Dear Bible Book Club starters, New York Times Bestsellers will come and go. The Bible stays.

All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults and giving instruction for right living. 2 Timothy 3:16. (Good News Translation)

The Bible is so full of precious information that will encourage you and your group and it will have a ripple effect into their families and beyond! Most importantly, specify the importance of confidentiality within your group. By all means share the useful Bible verses with people outside the group, but just not the particulars of someone’s personal situation.

Get started today!!

I’ll be happy to help you get it organized. If you are close to the Houston area, I can come to your first gathering to break the ice and get it going. Or, if you are out of my travel area, I can join in via Skype. Please contact me via this link on my website, Contact MiMi.
